Dear all in the survey subcommittee,

The recording of the latest survey meeting should be on the ISCET website now. Please do continue to work on the survey manuscript draft.

The research questions that have been created are as follows:

1. How are eye trackers used clinically?

• • Who (or which specialisation) performs the eye tracking, data analysis and interpretation?
  • How frequently is eye tracking performed?
  • Which systems are used?
  • Which measures or data are used, and by whom?
  • How is data processed, analysed and interpreted?
  • Are there imitations to, barriers or concerns about eye tracking at present?

2. What guidelines, if any, are used for eye tracking clinically?

• • Where they exist, is there a desire or need to change existing guidelines?
  • Where they don’t exist, is there a desire or need to develop guidelines?

If you have any comments about these – or are able to contribute to the current draft, please do so.

Survey working group meeting – notes and summary of actions

Tuesday 19th Nov 2025

The survey working group (only) should have access to the following draft documents:

Actions:

Introduction

1. Introduction has been drafted – critical comments from the working group invited
2. Research questions have been drafted by FM, to be reviewed and finalised by GA considering previous extensive discussions, then checked by OA. 
3. Working group to add any critical comments on these research questions before the next meeting.
4. GA to review survey content to ensure the research questions would be answered by the survey responses, then cross checked by OA

Results

5. MD, FM, DG to work on categorisation of responses and analysis of the results

6. MD, FM, DG to look at whether there are sufficient free text responses to analyse, collate, possibly display graphically (wordcloud), or use example quotes to illustrate ‘themes’ or points. Agreed steps:

6a. DG to give data ‘first pass’
6b. DG with FM to come up with list of variables
6c. MD to code the data using these variables 
6d. FM and DG to then check (and cross check) coding is correct – any discrepancies would be discussed and resolved

7. Then we would draft the results section – possibly using the research questions as subheadings. So agreed to wait until working group has commented on these (point 3 above) prior to structuring results.

Communication with working group:

8. Summary of research questions to be added by GA to ISCET forum (survey subcommittee)
9. Recording of meeting to be sent to Siyuan Chen to be uploaded to ISCET website
10. Continue using google docs for now – but then will generate word doc or LaTex document (possibly using overleaf) for the final version. Acknowledged frustration with google docs for some, but preference to keep everything together for now. 
11. Reminder for the working group to leave comments on google docs with identifying name or to be signed in to google when commenting. 
12. Action for wider ISCET group (possibly later) to discuss file format for future – RM to add this to wider ISCET agenda

Notes from today’s meeting:

Working group and authorship framework – from the nystagmus subcommittee. Agreement to suggest these to the survey subgroup and to take these to ISCET.  

Discussion about results. Review of Start here ISCET data document.

Actions from today’s meeting:

1. Authorship – GA to circulate these to survey working group for consideration. 

1. Group to review and comment on Figures: 
   1. MD and FM will work on comments from working group present at meeting and produce a next version of the Figures
   2. Are there are any Figures that we can remove / omit?
   3. Are there any additional Figures needed? 
   4. Should we display the ‘no response’ or ‘unknown’ data on the Figures? Or is this better within text? 
   5. Figure 14: this is quite a difficult Figure currently, as the data is quite heterogeneous. Should this be separated into eye movements and conditions? 
   6. To give a 2 week deadline for comments on the Figures.
