We discussed the “Nystagmus Standards” subcommittee.

The nystagmus standards subcommittee will discuss identifying a Chair for that subcommittee in their first meeting.
Rasha recommended waiting to create the free membership before establishing a formal process for electing members to the Organising Committee. (Majority in attendance agreed)
A suggestion was made that the Nystagmus Standards subcommittee might usefully focus on adults first, and only then discuss standards for children.
Those in attendance suggested that the Nystagmus Standards subcommittee may want to revisit the planned approach, considering whether we should focus on systems rather than specific medical conditions. For example, if a clinician wanted to look at the OKR, what are the correct approaches to doing that, what are the fundamental methods, what works and what does not, and what can that test tell you at the end of the process with respect to clinical decision-making.
A suggestion was raised that the subcommittee might focus on “fixational stability” rather than nystagmus per se.
We suggested that the Nystagmus Standards subcommittee should–in their first meeting–discuss their overall approach and consider whether a systems-based approach may be a better option.
Next meeting
The next meeting will be held in the Asia/Australasia region in approximately a month. Details will be announced on the website and mailing list.
